CraigS Thank you for the clarification and open transparency where this is not directly a Webex issue but more of an Apple MacOS security issue.
Just want to clarify, I am a huge Wirecast fan & paid support users for a number of years. I am just looking for answers/solutions to continue using Wirecast on a Mac and hopefully educate others. Its clear that Mac users are frustrated.
Webex Camera Not Working On Mac
Based on Apple’s documented hardened runtime within MacOS, by default 3rd party plugins are blocked by the using app unless the app is approved by Apple's runtime. Currently Apps like Webex and Apple Facetime are following security compliance with MacOS. Where other apps like Zoom is not following Apple security protocol as you stated 'sandboxing' to circumvent Apple's security. In general, when Apps update their code it could break the Wirecast virtual cam anytime. For example Zoom, Teams, Apple, Webex updated their apps to become security compliant earlier in 2020 that prevented virtual cameras, then some reverted back 'sandbox' because they were out of compliance with Apple MacOS security policy. To this end Wirecast developers are asking App developers to fix this by requesting them to become NONE COMPLIANT to Apple’s hardened runtime security policies.
Webex Video Chat Camera Not Working On Mac
Overall, the problem is with CoreMedia DAL plug-in that Wirecast uses on MacOS. Apple is moving away from that architecture entirely. Believe Wirecast users are in a stalemate, unless Wirecast develops an alternative for this plug-in (work other 3rd party virtual cams) or work with Apple to have it signed as a validated driver w/ the hardened runtime. Understand this may not be an easy task, but hoping Wirecast has roadmaps to address either. Without this the virtual camera feature within Wirecast will become obsolete.
